U.S. Regulators Launch Another Special Investigation Within A Week Into The Crash Involving Tesla
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said July 8 that it will conduct a special investigation into a July 6 crash in Florida that killed a 66-year-old driver and a 67-year-old passenger who were driving a 2015 Tesla. It's unclear whether the accident was on autopilot at the time of the crash.
And the day before, the NHTSA confirmed that it had launched a special investigation into a crash involving a 2018 Tesla Model 3 in California.
According to Reuters, the NHTSA has opened 36 special investigations into Tesla vehicles since 2016, and the agency typically conducts more than 100 special investigations a year into new technologies and potential safety issues.
