Tesla will close its Berlin, Germany, superfactory for two weeks in July
The plant needs to be upgraded to speed up production and open a third shift in the near future.
The Tesla Giga Berlin-Brandenburg plant in Grünheide near Berlin will have to stop production in July, a few months after its official launch.
According to media reports, according to unofficial sources, Tesla had to stop production of the Tesla Model Y in Germany in order to improve the production process and shorten the time for specific manufacturing stations.
According to the article, the suspension will last for two weeks (10 working days) between July 11 and July 22.
Automotive news reports following TeslaMag and Bild newspapers.
"The German website reported that Tesla aims to about double its production rate from August, citing an unidentified source."
"...... Part of the factory overhaul will focus on making sure the body spends just 30 seconds at each manufacturing station, instead of the current maximum of three minutes per stage."
It's worth noting that the Tesla Giga Berlin-Brandenburg plant reached the milestone of producing 1,000 Model Ys per week in June, or about 50,000 per year. However, this is about one-tenth of the full capacity of utilizing such a large plant (10,000 units per week and 500,000 units per year).
Improvements in the production process are critical to stopping a plant that is operating at limited capacity.
Later this year, Tesla is also expected to add a third production shift at the plant. To encourage employees, the company is also raising wages.
Meanwhile, Tesla is upgrading its China factory this month. The Model Y assembly line in Shanghai will be shut down for the first two weeks of July, followed by a 20-day shutdown of the Model 3 production line.
Once the work is completed, Tesla expects to significantly increase its productivity to new record levels later this quarter. In the second quarter, the company delivered more than 250,000 electric vehicles (worldwide) and announced that June was the highest month in Tesla's history for vehicle production.
