Tesla China Cancels Three Recruitment Events For More Than 1,000 Positions
Tesla has reportedly canceled three online hiring events scheduled for this month in China. Earlier, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said Tesla was "overstaffed" in some areas and needed to cut about 10 percent of its workforce.
At the time, Musk did not comment specifically on staffing issues in China. But last night news emerged that Tesla had canceled three hiring events in China scheduled for June 16, 23 and 30, involving sales, R&D and supply chain positions, without specifying the reasons.
Tesla has not yet responded to a reporter's request for comment.
Tesla's Shanghai plant mainly produces the Model 3 and Model Y models for domestic sales and export in China. Last year, the plant produced more than 50 percent of Tesla's cars. 2021, Tesla's revenue in China more than doubled, contributing 1/4 of Tesla's total revenue.
According to the original plan, Tesla China had a special recruitment event for "smart manufacturing" positions last night (June 9). Now, the notice for that event is no longer available, and it's unclear if it was held as planned.
Tesla China has posted more than 1,000 jobs on its social media platforms, including aerodynamics engineers, supply chain managers, store managers, factory supervisors and workers. For now, Tesla China is still allowing job seekers to submit resumes for these positions.
Musk had said in an email last week that he was suspending all hiring globally. Musk said at the time that he had a "super bad feeling" about the economy and needed to cut 10 percent of Tesla's workforce.
