According to data released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), wholesale sales in December were 55,796 units (CPCA data are listed as wholesale units), down 44.37% from 100,291 units in November and down 21.24% from 70,847 units in the same month last year. Among them, Model Y models delivered more than 450,000 units, tying Tesla China's 2021 delivery achievement of 480,000 units. Combined with previous CPCA data, Giga Shanghai delivered over 710,865 new vehicles for the year, up 50.26 percent from 473,078 in 2021.
Wholesale sales data includes cars delivered by Tesla in China as well as vehicles exported from the Shanghai plant, for which a breakdown is not available.
Previously Tesla announced fourth quarter and full year 2022 delivery data showing that in the fourth quarter of 2022, Tesla produced more than 439,000 vehicles globally and delivered more than 405,000 vehicles. for the full year 2022, Tesla delivered 1.31 million vehicles globally, up 40 percent year-over-year, and produced a total of 1.37 million vehicles, up 47 percent year-over-year. Tesla said the transition to "more balanced volume production for different regional markets" continued, which led to a further increase in vehicles in transit at the end of the quarter.
In addition, Tesla's Giga Shanghai delivery figure of 710,000 vehicles already exceeds the CPCA's 2021 sales figures for the BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi brands in mainland China. According to CPCA statistics for the first November 2022 wholesale volume data performance, Tesla is expected to surpass BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and become the first luxury car brand delivery in the Chinese market as it opens the delivery in China for three years.
According to Tesla statistics, the localization rate of Giga Shanghai parts is higher than 95%, which has led to the formation of a full ecological chain of electric vehicle parts around Shanghai that brings together batteries, car chips, autonomous driving systems, car interiors, precision processing and other electric vehicle parts.
In terms of service network construction, Tesla has reached 10,000 supercharging piles in mainland China, more than 1,500 supercharging stations, paired with more than 700 destination charging stations and more than 1,900 destination charging piles, plus hundreds of thousands of exclusive private charging piles for Tesla owners to facilitate charging for Tesla users. By the end of December 2022, Tesla stores and service centers are laid out in more than 320 nationwide.
