The new Twitter chief executive fired several journalists for what he claimed were violations of Twitter policy, including CNN's Donie O'Sullivan, The Washington Post's Drew Harwell, The New York Times' Ryan Mac, Mashable's Matt Binder, The Intercept's Micah Lee and independent journalist Aaron Rupar. Self-proclaimed free speech advocate Elon Musk threw his social media platforms into chaos on Thursday.

Musk was also in attendance after amassing an audience of thousands, and the suspension of Musk's ElonJet account, which he promised last month would never happen, followed a change in Twitter's policy on Wednesday that was allegedly aimed at cracking down on people searches. Musk countered that journalists shouldn't expect "special treatment" or exemptions from Twitter's people search rules, which include a seven-day suspension for any offending accounts.

"You people search, you get suspended, end of story, that's it," Musk said, before promptly leaving the space. Journalists countered that they had not released any real-time flight data as he claimed, but by then the billionaire had exited the space. The conversation drew an audience of more than 40,000 at its peak.

Musk said the suspension stemmed from the platform's new rule banning private jet trackers, responding to a tweet from Mike Solana, vice president of venture capital firm Founders Fund, who noted that the suspended accounts had posted links to jet trackers on other sites. NBC News was unable to confirm the allegation, which was made Thursday after the banned account posted "I did have a tangible location, basically assassination coordinates, (apparently) in direct violation of Twitter's terms of service.

On Wednesday Musk posted a tweet describing a masked stalker who blocked the car carrying his son and then confronted him.

Last night, car carrying lil X in LA was followed by crazy stalker (thinking it was me), who later blocked car from moving & climbed onto hood.

Legal action is being taken against Sweeney & organizations who supported harm to my family.
